Another election is behind us and now we can get back to our

normal lives. Of course there’s always 2008 to think about. But

that will come soon enough.

Hillary Clinton, the Democrats most prominent candidate for 2008, is calling for people to get past the election and for the end of partisanship. Speaking at Tufts University on Nov. 10, 2004, we have the following:

“She began by expressing the wish ‘…that I were here speaking about the prospect of a Middle Eastern foreign policy from the perspective of a President Kerry,’ a remark which elicited hearty clapping from the college-aged crowd. But Clinton said next that partisanship must be avoided if serious conflicts like those in the Middle East are ever to be resolved. All countries ‘…have a stake in the great conflicts occurring in the Middle East; but the U.S. has more at stake and more capacity than most to shape the region’s outcome,’ she said.”

This is fabulous news. Finally, the policymakers are coming together. We look forward to great things through this spirit of unity expressed by Hillary Clinton.

But truthfully, what are the chances that politicians, or religions, or countries will ever really put aside partisanship? If that happened, we would have peace on earth: the end of wars, prejudice, and differences. Will there ever be peace on this earth and an end to the problems that exist?

The Gospel is the Gospel of Peace (“shod your feet with the Gospel of Peace”, Eph. 6:15) but it makes for peace between man and God. Jesus didn’t promise there would be peace on earth. He said, “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword” Mat 10:34. When someone hears the Gospel and obeys it (“What will be the outcome for those who do not obey the Gospel?”, 1 Pt. 4:17); then peace is accomplished in the salvation of the person. But it is also true that as we draw closer to God, resisting the devil, we will endure persecution from the world. “Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted…”, 2 Tim. 3:12.

Let’s hope that Senator Clinton, the Democrats choice for 2008, will be able to lead the way in ending the partisanship that divides our country. But even if that doesn’t happen, the separation that exists between you and God can be ended today by becoming a Christian. If you believe in Jesus, the Son of God, and if you will confess that Good News to others, and if you will turn away from sin and be immersed into Christ; then God will save you because you put your faith in Him.
