LEARNING TO BE GAY

“Because of this did God give them up to dishonourable affections, for even their females did change the natural use into that against nature; and in like manner also the males having left the natural use of the female, did burn in their longing toward one another; males with males working shame, and the recompense of their error that was fit, in themselves receiving.” – Romans 1:26,27The Bible says that homosexuality is learned behavior that is connected to turning away from God, and some in our society agree. At the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, students can learn how to be gay.
“in a course description on the university’s Web site, Mr. Halperin says: ‘Just because you happen to be a gay man doesn’t mean that you don’t have to learn how to become one. Gay men do some of that learning on their own, but often we learn how to be gay from others.'” – Entire article.”But often we learn how to be gay from others”? Not too many gay right advocates would make this admission, but it is what we have known or suspected all along that homosexuals are developed and not born that way. George Gilder observed:

“…an enormous number of homosexuals have clearly been recruited from the ranks of the physically normal….There are millions of males who under the wrong conditions are open to homosexuality.”(Men and Marriage, 1992, p.71)

The Bible says that homosexuality is a sexual sin to be repented of. The Romans passage cited above indicates that homosexuality is related to turning away from God. But some are now convinced that homosexuality is natural, an inborn trait: the urge is just too strong for it not to be. But this attitude should be rejected as it is not founded on scientific knowledge. Because a person feels a strong urge to do something is not evidence that it is a genetic predisposition. Contrary to common assertions that homosexuality is inborn, this is a cultural lifestyle that is indirectly influenced in homes and/or directly passed on through “initiation.” George Gilder in his book, Men and Marriage, wrote:
“The most crucial cause of the rise in homosexuality in America in recent decades is sexual liberation: the emancipation of men from monogamy.” (Gilder, p.76)Gilder allows that homosexuals may be afflicted with a profound predisposition toward it, that may be “physiological” in nature, like alcoholism or other additions (which I disagree with, though Gilder allows for this because the physical and social science can’t offer absolute evidence either way). But I think he is right on target when he says, “an enormous number of homosexuals have clearly been recruited from the ranks of the physically normal.” (p.71). Gilder explains the “recruiting” process that includes drugs and alcohol and is usually associated with some kind of perceived or real (as in societies where men are allowed to have more than one wife) alienation by the “physically normal” man, which can play a part in his turning to other males.

The professor David M. Halperin, who is teaching the University class on learning to be gay, includes in his university course description: students “will examine a number of cultural artifacts and activities” including “camp, diva-worship, drag, muscle culture, taste, style and political activism.” Mr. Halperin’s class explores “the role that initiation plays in the formation of gay male identity.”

These activities that serve as university course material play right into the “recruiting” methods employed by the homosexual community.

In closing, let me say that Christians should show kindness to all people. By trusting what the Bible says that homosexuality is a sinful thing, does not mean that Christians can take a mean or nasty attitude toward those who practice this sin. We must be kind to all, and call for people to repent and turn to salvation in Jesus Christ.

  2. Dear Discipler,You are a homophobe. You and your ilk should stop your vicious attacks on homosexual culture. Homosexuality is a genetic defect they can’t help. They are the most maligned people in this country ala the blacks when they were slaves through this day. Let people live their lives, and I commend the University of Michigan for their openness and guidance in teaching homosexuals how to navigate through this american culture of bigots like yourself.

Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, I find hard to bleieve that a collage would be teaching these thigs. Why dont they teach about forication, idoltary, and lying. None of these things belong in a class. How about just teaching honesty, Godlyness, and purity. Thank You for speaking the truth. AMEN

  6. Dear Mammoth Cougar…,First of all, you are over-reacting to what is a pretty tame article. To say that it is vicious is just exaggeration. I don’t think it is in my interest to be “vicious”. You claim that it is wrong for me to judge; yet, you judge and call names. Second, homosexuality is not a genetic defect. If that were true, “you and your ilk” would be attacking someone else for not yet finding a cure. Third, to compare being black with a genetic defect is just wrong. Being black is natural; being homosexual is not. There is nothing natural about a homosexual act because it goes contrary to design. Fourth, you must not have read the professor’s claim that homosexuality is also learned. Contrary to your assertion that it is genetic that “they can’t help.” Indeed, the university professor seems to be interested in helping it. Fifth, you do not have a problem with me; your problem is with the Bible. I teach that homosexual relations is a sin because the Bible says it. Your profile says that your favorite book is the Bible. Great, it’s mine too. But maybe you haven’t spent enough time in it to see what it says about homosexual activity. I wish you well. I hope that next time you will seek to learn what the Bible says instead of attacking those who don’t agree with your opinion.

  8. Dear Mammoth Cougar,I don’t think you have to worry about colleges being turned into churches. That is why there are so many private colleges where people can have an atmosphere that is more conducive to spiritual growth. But what you are speaking of is excluding a debate over moral standards. And like it or not, homosexuality is and will remain a moral issue. The people who speak against pre-marital sex, abuse of alcohol and drugs, and the likes are the ones–including myself–who will speak out against homosexuality. What has changed in the last 10 or so years has not been the Biblical teaching on the subject, but what has changed is the vocal and in-your-face tactics of the gay community. And these people are militant, even threatening violence or other forms of retribution. I think what needs to happen is for people to get their impulses in check and allow for the idea that that homosexual urges may be trained in them (reference article) and not inborn.

  9. I am a homosexual.
I personally don't agree that being gay is learned. I knew my feelings towards males before I ever understood what being a homosexual was. I also understand that this is just my personal experience and I'm sure others may differ. I'm also a Christian and my personal belief is that God made everyone and he loves every single person unconditionally. There's never been a doubt in my mind about that. You say not to judge others, yet everytime you say homosexuality is immoral you are judging the entire gay community. If you think being gay is wrong, that's your opinion and your entitled to it. But who are you, or anyone else to for that matter, to tell someone to get their impulses in check. I can't help who I'm attracted to, and God knows I've tried in the past to change that. I've learned to accept the way that I am. If I'm okay with it, then why is it anyone elses problem? Narrow minded people making rude and inconsiderate remarks such as the earlier post saying “fag chromosome” are unnecessary. It's unneeded comments like that that hurt people everyday. It's mean comments like that which have caused many people to take their lives for feeling unworthy of Gods love. Your opinion that homosexuality is wrong is perfectly acceptable. But why should it be unacceptable for myself or any other gay person in the world to be able to love another man, or a woman to love another woman? If it doesn't personally harm you then why does it matter to you on such a great scale? The world will change, and homosexualality will become more accepted.
