5But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and [h]without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. 7For that person ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, 8being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. – James 1
The “lack” of wisdom is a void that God will fill if you ask in faith. Wisdom is knowing how to do and say stuff for better living a spiritual life. James 3 says there is two wisdoms: one from above and one that is carnal and natural and is of the devil.
You and I cannot have the wisdom from above without faith that God gives it. And then when you have it, you say, this is from God.
Wisdom does not come by merely reading the Bible. Yes, the Bible is essential, but the carnal man will only walk away from it with a carnal practice of what he has learned. There are many who have studied the Bible more as a text book and they lack heavenly wisdom.
To have God’s wisdom, a person needs to read the Bible with prayer and with faith that God will then give the wisdom to apply it. So we need to be ready, when reading and praying, to receive the wisdom that is from above. This wisdom only comes by waiting on the Lord for the answer. We need to have a “listening” posture to hear the answer from God.
Years ago I did a lesson in 2011 that God answers my prayers ‘in my prayers’ (Link is below). I do not mean to suggest that my thoughts are God’s voice. But I do mean to say, and I can only say it by faith the same as I would credit God for doing anything else, behind the voice of my own mind is going to come the wisdom from God. In other words, when I pray, “God, should I go over to that woman’s house?” I will tell myself, “Dan, remember what the Proverbs warn against and remember that Paul said your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and you are not to join yourself to someone not your wife.” By faith, I know that that answer came from the inaudible voice of God because I listen to Him and am receptive to his pricks.
Are you listening to God? Do you still go to that place of sexual immorality to see how close you can get to sin without sin? If so, you are not listening to God. Do you type in the search bar “po**” or “se_” and not hear the wisdom of God saying, “Don’t do it”? It is important and God is warning you here through me, to listen to Him and He will give you the wisdom to walk wisely and avoid the pitfalls of sin.
