Is there a difference between God’s vengeance and man’s vengeance? Well the Bible does say to not take vengeance because vengeance belongs to God. But, I have another question. Can God’s vengeance be worked through men? Can a person say this is not the vengeance of man, this is the vengeance of God? We know in Romans 13. That the Bible says that God gives authority to the government and that the government is an avenger for God. Instead of having a quick bumper sticker statement that, oh Christians can’t execute vengeance because that belongs to God. Instead I’m asking can a righteous person who is walking faithfully if God execute God’s vengeance? If God gives his authority to government, and government gives authority to soldiers and police, doesn’t it follow that they are executing God’s vengeance, as in, then vengeance is mine?
What’s an example? An example is a case of self-defense. If your child or your wife is being abused by a man, you defend them. Instead of calling 911 for the police to execute the vengeance of God, see Romans 13, you are within your rights and foolish if you don’t do so to defend your home. That’s what a strong man does.
I view such a righteous act as the vengeance of God, the same as any agent of the state.. I’m tired of the “turn the other cheek” interpretation often given that doesn’t allow for self defense.
