The members of the Lacrosse Team from Duke University, who allegedly raped an “exotic dancer” (stripper) they had hired for entertainment, say they have done nothing wrong. Of course, I don’t know if the three men who have been charged actually raped the woman, but certainly they did something wrong if they had anything to do with party in question. Start with the wrong choices for “entertainment” and the wrong kind of friends. You cannot play with fire and say you did nothing wrong when you get burned. No one in this whole sordid event is without fault.

“With much seductive speech she persuades him; with her smooth talk she compels him. All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a stag is caught fast till an arrow pierces its liver; as a bird rushes into a snare; he does not know that it will cost him his life. And now, O sons, listen to me, and be attentive to the words of my mouth. Let not your heart turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her paths, for many a victim has she laid low, and all her slain are a mighty throng. Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.” – Pro 7:21-27

  1. Exactly. I have actually heard these thoughts expressed on tlevision shows. Not much – but I have heard them. In contrast, I don’t think I have ever heard those thought regarding the Natalee Holloway case. Terrible thing to have happen, but nobody mentions that it was a group of 18 yr olds drinking to great excess and looking to “hook – up”. If she had been taught not to be in that situation or he she had acted responsibly of her own accord it probably wouldn’t have happened. Hopefully justice will be done in both cases.

  2. Hi 1000 yds,Some might see our criticism of Natalie as mean or improper, but such isn’t the case. We have as much concern for her as anyone, but an unbiased examination is necessary to warn future travelers. Imagine if the parents had taken Natalie aside, saying, “Listen Honey, we know there is a lot of ‘grown up’ activity going to happen over there on that island. It only leads to trouble. So we want you to promise us that you will steer completely clear of anything like that. No drinking, no staying out by yourself. Stay with the chapperones and come in with them. Etc….” Kids have to be told what to avoid. Then again, as much as I trust my children, they still wouldn’t go on a trip like this unless I went too.

  3. I understand that you are certainly not “blaming the victim.” She and the young men surely lacked prudence to say the least. To plead “not guilty” and proclaim innocence to charges of rape, sexual offense and kidnapping in the context of a court of law is understandable. However, you are correct in that they are not blameless by any stretch. From a moral perspective they may indeed by guilty and from a legal perspective “no guilty.” Unfortunately these two do not always coincide as I’m sure you can attest to.I hate to read accounts that this may be another Twanda Brawley hoax. Her claims should be taken seriously by all. (Of course, I’m not including you here.)

  4. Dear Pazdziernik,When my son was a young boy, I used to point out to him the youths that would loiter downtown just looking for trouble. I would tell him that these kids were setting themselves up for trouble, even if they weren’t directly involved. Sometimes total ruin comes simply by being in the wrong crowd. In a technically legal rendering, it might be an injustice they receive, but in the big scheme of things it is the best that justice can do. Sometimes you sow the wind, but “unjustly” reap the whirlwind. It’s good hearing from you.– Dan

  5. I hope that your son took your words to heart!
