There has been so much talk about the polar ice melt and the consequence it has on everything from polar bears to the demise of islands and coastlands. But maybe the speculating is based on faulty data. Read more HERE from Bloomberg News about how a problem with faulty sensors caused the scientists to underestimate the amount of arctic ice by a California size area. If it’s not global warming predictions, it’s dire predictions of nuclear annihilation. A recent series on one of the cable channels illustrated how earth will return to a pristine environment once man has killed himself from existence. Wind, rain, and other natural forces will slowly decay and absorb the buildings and other remembrances of man’s presence. I don’t doubt the ability of man to kill and destroy, but I do doubt man’s ability to predict the end of the world.
What’s that you say preacher, keep to preaching the Bible. I am. Don’t Christians believe the world is going to end? We do, and there is nothing we can do to stop it. According to the Scriptures, the most we can do is hasten that end by advancing God’s plan of saving the lost world. Peter writes about the judgment of God and His destruction of this creation.
“10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. 11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat!” – 2 Peter 3:10-12
Is this world coming to an end? Yep, but just not in the way that modern day alarmists are suggesting. And when it does end, it will be a glorious day to meet Jesus, face to face. When you are right with Jesus, the end of the world doesn’t sound scary at all.
