The cultural and religious war is underway. From the London Telegraph is the following shocking news that “Church schools could be forced to promote Islam and homosexuality under a new legally-binding code of conduct for teachers, it is feared.”
How does something like this happen? “As The Daily Telegraph disclosed last month, the General Teaching Council – the profession’s regulator – has published a draft code of conduct that all teachers will have to sign.” Where will this encroachment on religious liberties lead to next? What if there was a government “profession’s regulator” that set the guidelines for preaching? Interesting. Christians don’t have to run a school. But they do have to assemble for worship and fellowship. We have already seen that some speech is already being monitored in churches especially as it relates to politics and homosexuality.
Christians are commanded to obey the governing authorities, to pay taxes, and pray for those in authority. Paul writes, “2Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves” (Rom. 13:2). But do Christians should believers go against their conscience and promote what they believe is sinful? Certainly not. There comes a time when they must say, “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:30).
At the root of all this is the expression of one’s faith and conscience. In America, with the newest political climate saying that the safeguards might be lifted from protecting doctors and nurses who refuse to give or participate in abortions, it is another legislation that infringes on the individuals right. The doctor will have the right to prescribe medicine as long as he supports the inhumane practice of aborting a child. Today came reports that Catholic Bishops are considering closing 600 hospitals instead of complying with the government. Others are saying they won’t close, but they won’t comply either.1 Things are getting very interesting.
