The book of Revelation talks about a book, called “the book of life.” It is referred to a number of times. It is the “book of life of the Lamb” (Rev. 13:8; 21:27) and those who worship the Beast are not written in the book. No one in all of history who did not repent of worshiping idols has ever been written in the Lamb’s book of life. On Judgment Day, books will be opened including the book of life (Rev. 20:12). All men on that day will be judged according to their deeds. And those whose names are not written in the book of life will be thrown into the eternal place of fire (Rev. 20:15). In fact, the only people who will enter heaven are those whose names are written in the book of life (Rev. 21:27). There is no exception to this. Those who worship and are faithful to Jesus Christ, their names are in the book of life. But those who participate in the immoralities of the world, who persecute Christians, and rebel against God, they will suffer in hell for eternity.
Because God loves the world and sent His only begotten Son to die for the whole world, each and every person has a choice to accept or reject Jesus. It is a personal choice which God allows each to make. Even the Christian who turns away from God can have his name erased from the book of life (Rev. 3:5). It is a choice of faith to become a Christian and it is a choice of faith to stay a Christian. God extends His saving grace, but He does not force anyone to take it. Because He is not a respecter or persons, He also does not withhold the invitation from anyone. “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who hears say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.” (Rev. 22:17).
Is your name written in the book of life? It can be if you believe in Jesus, turn away from sin, and put Jesus on in Baptism. To be baptized into Christ is to “clothe yourself with Christ” and His righteousness. Those who are cleansed by the blood – which is appropriated at baptism – are made righteous and written into the book.
Look at the following verses to see the importance and necessity of baptism:
John 3:5; Titus 3:5
1 Peter 3:21
God bless you in your search for the Truth.
