THEY BOAST IN SIN AND THINK THEY ARE RIGHT

1 It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father’s wife. 2 You have become arrogant and have not mourned instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be removed from your midst…. 6 Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough?” – 1 Cor. 5:1-2,6

There have always been churches like this. It’s shocking that the church of Christ in Corinth would have one of its members living in adultery and they would do nothing about it. Not only did they know about it, but they the “boasted” in it. They did not to address the sin but somehow made it a good thing. How does that happen?

Churches today do the same thing. They authorize marriages that are obviously unscriptural, and they approve worship that does not follow the New Testament pattern, and they grant salvation – by approving as Christian brothers – to those who have not obeyed the Gospel by repenting and being baptized for remission of sins. These churches are filled with unrepentant, unsaved people. When their error is pointed out, they call you names – this is when they take a firm stand. But against adultery and fornication they boast. Yes, they boast that they understand grace better, that they aren’t judgmental, and that they are more open-minded and tolerant. They boast in sin and think they are right. To be Christ’s church, our boast is Christ Jesus and we strive to keep purity in His church (Mt. 18:15-18; 2 Cor. 2:6).
