There are many religious leaders who look to the world for answers. What is our purpose? How to grow the church? How to change and save people? What will be the message from the pulpit? They act as if God has left them to their own devices and wisdom. He has not. The church of Christ has godly Shepherds who look to Him for direction on such monumental questions.

Then I will give you shepherds after My own heart, who will feed you on knowledge and understanding” (Jer 3:15)

God’s spiritual Leaders don’t feed God’s flock on pop culture which is idolatry, on desires of the flesh which is hedonism, on feelings which is emotionalism, on vain philosophies of men like Darwinism which is hubris. No, God’s Shepherds feed His flock on truth. God’s Shepherds enlighten the soul through truth and understanding.

Brother Gary Freeman described the work of Elders: “Heed – Lead – Weed – Feed: the elders four-fold charge!” God’s men who lead His flock understand the seriousness of the charge given to them by the Holy Spirit. They are committed to following the “Word of His grace” (Acts 20:32). The Oversight of the church of Christ is serious business which cannot be accomplished by following the whims and dictates of the world. Spiritual leaders know the Word of God and they care that the church gets a steady diet of Truth. Because they live it, they know the dangers of everything that is contrary to it. Thank God for His wisdom to give Shepherds who lead the flock of God in the Truth.

  1. I agree. I see so many churches trying to shift more towards the desires of the world in order to attract members. God's church has never been won over by popularity or coolness. We seek members because God's word is truth and we choose not to sway from that truth. Thank God for the churches with good elders.
