“Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted”, Mt. 23:12
People are sheep and follow whatever they are told. The “Pastor” isn’t a Pastor yet men often wear the title without meeting the qualifications for such (1 Tim. 3:1ff; Titus 1:5ff). Yet “his flock” calls him it anyway. And it’s odd, very odd that men wear the title “Reverend” when the word comes from the Hebrew Yawray, meaning, “be afraid, stand in awe, revere, respect”? Psalm 111:9 is the only place in the Bible it is used to relate to God’s name. It’s just wrong.
Jesus said,
“5 But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments. 6 They love the place of honor at banquets and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7 and respectful greetings in the market places, and being called Rabbi by men”, Mt. 23:5,6.
There’s a parallel today when men wears titles they shouldn’t.
God’s sheep hear and obey His voice. They recognize when men are speaking from themselves and not the truth. Jesus made it clear that the tendency in men to aspire to places of honor is a vexing problem to be avoided.
Remember, “God is opposed to the proud, but He gives grace to the humble.”
