IRREVERENCE….how have men become irreverent towards God in their worship? Doing what God did not command. Adding where God did not add. Exceeding what is written, 1 Cor. 4:6. Dividing and denominating when Jesus prayed for unifying. Calling themselves after Peter and Paul and Apollos and Popes and Luther and Baptist when Paul said Christ alone should receive the glory.
Such irreverent people do not see the parallel between their actions and the stories of the Bible like when Uzzah touched the ark of the covenant: “6 But when they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached out toward the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen nearly upset it. 7 And the anger of the Lord burned against Uzzah, and God struck him down there for his irreverence; and he died there by the ark of God” 2 Sam 4.
You cannot speak where God has not spoken without being presumptuous. Do you answer and say “yes” and give approval to worship and practices when God has not approved it? Do you? If you speak for God, you must have the Word of God to back it up. Otherwise you are an adder or a subtractor and a divider. Such irreverence will not be rewarded by God.
