Love….it’s not a feeling, it’s an eternal doing. Love in heaven will be what love is now.
Loving God is shown in a man’s deeds. Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” Love and Commandments go hand in hand so that the only effective way to “speak the truth in love”, Eph. 4:15. We can’t Love without doing. The Apostle Jesus Loved said, “The one that does the will of God will abide forever”, 1 John 2:17. Just as Truth is eternal, the one that obeys the Truth will abide forever with God.
What will we be doing for eternity? The Apostle Paul said in the great chapter on Love that, “now remains faith, hope, and love; the greatest of these is love”, 1 Cor. 13:13. Love is greatest of the three because it is eternal, like Truth is eternal. Faith and Hope will be unneeded in heaven because we will see and have what here we can only only hope for by faith; but Love is eternal because God is Love, 1 John 4:8. Through eternity will abide God’s Truth, God’s Love, and His people. The Redeemed will have an eternal, doing Love. In heaven we will Love others as ourselves; in heaven the Royal Law will be to do unto as as we would have them do unto us.. It must be true because God’s Truth and Love are eternal.
This will be personal, applying to you, to me, and to all of God’s children who have lived by these things. In heaven, the Apostle Paul will still be Paul. Abraham will be the great man of faith. Dan will be Dan, and Hazel will still be Hazel, and you will still be you. We will be Loving God and God will be loving each other with Christian Love. And we will dwell with Jesus and…and….I wish I knew more….but I know that in heaven Love will abide and so will those who do the will of God. The nature of Love will not change. It won’t become only a feeling. It will still be the Law of Life. To Love our neighbors. And we shall surely have a Doing Love in heaven.
This Doing Love that is in heaven is the same Love that God calls for from us in this life. John said we have confidence in our salvation because, “because as He is, so also are we in this world.” Let’s not forget or be deceived into thinking love is only a feeling. Paul thanked God for the Thessalonians whose love labored, 1 Thess. 1:3. Do we have a Doing Love? Are we Doing God’s 2 Great Commandments? Do we Love souls? Do we Love the church of Christ? Do we Love the Word of God? Do we Love in deed, 1 John 3:18. Do we Love on earth as God Loves in heaven?
