1. Man has Duty to Serve and Worship God, Eccl 12:13.
    1. One duty I take very seriously is the responsibility to be “sound in doctrine” and to impart God’s Truth to you; “equipping the saints for the work of service”, Eph. 4; 1 Tim 4:6,16.
6 In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following….16 Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.
  1. There is Liberty for each man who lives under the Framework of God’s Law,
    1. “Free will” means what if there’s no degree of freedom? Muslims HATE “freedom”. Calvinists say that free will does not exist – everything is predetermined by God.
    2. Acts 5:4 freedom of property
    1. 1 Cor. 7:7,38,39 freedom to marry or not.  As a single person, you have more freedom to serve God. Entering the Covenant of Marriage relinquishes some of that liberty.
    1. 1 Cor. 7:21 “Choose rather to be free”.  Why? Because as a free man you enjoy more of the individual liberty God has granted to men. Men in all stations of life, free or not, have to periodically choose to follow God instead of men.
    2. 1 Cor. 8:9  freedom to eat any meat or to eat only vegetables, Rom. 14:2; 10:29
    3. 1 Cor. 9:12 right to be supported for preaching or to charge nothing.
    4. Acts 8:2,4  right to choose life; God has given us mobility to live where we may worship Him.
    1. Tyrants, Despots, Evil Masters control what has not been granted by God for them to control over men.
    1. The individual liberties God has given are what manifest in our lives and in the church. We choose different stations in life. Educational choices. Preferences in work. Family and children choices. Where to live. Who to be friends with (as long as friends don’t conflict with living under the rule of God).
  1. Individual Liberty is not Absolute and we are Warned about Claiming More Liberty that Would be Sin in God’s eyes.
    1. Some try to take their freedom too far. Free to marry who they will. Free to do any work, even immoral. Free to worship however they choose. This is not what God intends.
    2. Gal. 5:1,13  “It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery….13 For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”
    3. 1 Peter 2:16 “Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God.”   “Free men” exercise a degree of freedom that slaves do not have. “Free” is the natural state God intended for men to live in. It goes without saying, but I’ll say it again, but this freedom does not allow a man to sin or to live outside of the framework of God’s moral law in the New Testament.
    1. Romans 3:8 “And why not say (as we are slanderously reported and as some claim that we say), “let us do evil that good may come”? Their condemnation is just.”
      1. Immoral men were invading the church claiming liberties that Christians don’t have. We don’t have the license to sin but some where claiming that baptism made it all OK.
    1. 1 Tim 6:5 “and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.
    2. And we need to be good citizens, Roman 13; 1 Peter 2:13ff.
  1. Christians are to act as free men, not slaves, except they may not assume liberties which are evil since they must still answer to God, 1 Peter 2:16.  Change Agents who sneak into the church have claimed liberties that allow things and ignore the duty that each man has to first obey God. A personal freedom cannot conflict with God’s Law.
