A man who wants to go to California can get himself a map, can consult his Google phone and pull up a map, and he can drive straight to the correct desired destination without ever consulting another soul. The map won’t mislead him. He doesn’t need to pull over and ask the convenience store clerk for directions who may or may not know the way. All he needs is the map. 

If you want to know the way to Christ, you had better consult the Bible. With the Bible, you will know the way. John 20:30,31 says, “30 Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.” The written Word tells us all we need to know to having saving faith. Man will mislead you. There are many men in the world who work for the devil and if you listen to them, you will not know until it is too late. Consult the Word of God. 

A friend of mine, a beloved friend, has been misled by men. He now defends a doctrine that can’t be found in Scripture. He won’t tell me what writing he consulted to come up with this new belief. He won’t tell me if the persuasion was a family member or a writing of man. But I know that he did not get his belief from the Scriptures. He looked at the wrong map and now he’s going someplace man has led him. 

The Scriptures are the mind of God, 1 Cor. 2:10-13. God’s mind has delivered to the world what is His will. The general will of God is that men be saved from their sins by believing in His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. And God’s specific will is that man be saved by confessing Christ while turning from sin and being immersed into the watery grave of Baptism. A man that is ignorant of God’s will, who has been taught denominational doctrine and whose faith is based on that denominational doctrine, such a man does not know why he’s doing what he’s doing. Often this man is lazy and has not consulted the map that God has given. Instead he has listened to false teachers and the false teachers are of the Devil. And the Devil’s work is accomplished. The Devil wants people to believe different from the Bible that men put their faith in him instead of putting their faith in the inspired words from the mind of God! The Devil has led many astray. Denominations are not of God. They are of the Devil. The Lord is not the author of confusion. The Devil is and he has been from the very beginning. It doesn’t matter how sincere a person is because people are sincerely lost. The Israelites of Romans 10:1,2 had zeal but not in accordance. That zeal wasn’t enough to save them. They needed zeal that was rooted in the truth. Denominational folks, guided not by Scripture but by denominational doctrines, are in the same boat as those Israelites.
