The Seventh Day Adventist church (SDA) will misuse the Scriptures to encourage people to turn back to keeping the Old Law of Moses, particularly the Commandment to keep the Sabbath Day. This is a false teaching.
They quote Revelation 14:12 which says, “HERE is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” True enough, we need to keep the commandments of God, but not the commandments of God in an Old Testament which God said was obsolete now that Christ has come (see Gal 3:24-26; Heb 8:6,13). Revelation is talking about keeping the commandments of God given through Christ (Matthew 28:19,20; Jn 14:15)
The SDA convinces people that the Sabbath day, i.e. Saturday, is the proper day to assemble and worship God. Nehemiah the prophet said, “So You made known to them Your holy sabbath, And laid down for them commandments, statutes and law, Through Your servant Moses.” – Neh 9:14; cf Deut 5:2,3. When does Nehemiah say God gave His people the Sabbath to observe? Verse 13 says, “Then You came down on Mount Sinai, And spoke with them from heaven; You gave them just ordinances and true laws, Good statutes and commandments.”
The SDA argues that the Sabbath day rest was observed from the very beginning of the Creation in the Garden of Eden. But Nehemiah says, no, it was given to Moses and not before. So even though the observance of the Sabbath was not given to people before Moses, and even though the Apostle Paul said “if you keep part of the law you are bound to keep all of it and are severed from Christ”, still they push their error which they learned from their prophetess, Ellen G. White.
And Paul said we are complete in Christ, Col 2:10. We are not bound to the Old Law of Moses – which Ellen G White resurrected.
“16 Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day— 17 things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.” – Col 2
The things of the Old Law, the sacrifices, the tabernacle, priesthood, and the Sabbath were mere shadows of what the substance that’s in Christ. Now that Christ has come, the shadows are not brought back.
The SDA says that the Sabbath was a perpetual or everlasting commandment. Nope, not any more so than was circumcision and other things that came to an end with the coming of faith in Christ.
- Lev 24:8 Sabbath an everlasting covenant
- Gen 17:13 Circumcision an everlasting covenant
- Exo 40:15 Aaronic Priesthood everlasting
No Sir, the teachings of the false prophet Ellen G. White, is the foundation of the 7th Day Adventist (SDA), not Christ and His Apostles (Eph. 2:20).
So let’s dismiss this error. The leaven of false teaching is in the teachings of Ellen G. White. The 7th Day was given only to the Jews, Nehemiah 9:14. So I do not believe the words of the SDA prophetess who claims to have seen visions. The 7th day observance was not given to others; not before Moses and not after the Cross of Jesus Christ. The early church did not worship and assemble together (e.g. 1 Cor. 14) on Saturday, the 7th day of the week. Acts 20:6,7 shows the church came together on the 1st Day of the Week. The SDA people will point to a few verses in Acts where Paul went to the tabernacle on the Sabbath. Paul was evangelizing, speaking at the temple or in synagogues to speak the Gospel to the lost sheep of Israel. When the Jews would reject, Paul would shake the dust from His feet and turn to the Gentiles.
Please, I am warning all to stay away from this error. God bless you.
