MOTIVATION TO GIVE, Dan Mayfield

Do people still give a tenth? Is it OK to give a tenth? Sure. We don’t push Old Testament Law, but we do teach principles from the Old Testament, if they are timeless truths. Can some give less and some give more than ten percent? Yes.

God promises that if we have a generous giving spirit, God will bless the giver with an abundance. This is not, I repeat, this is not what the “health and prosperity” religious pimp preachers are teaching who not coincidentally are driving their Mercedes and building mansions with the church money.

No, this is a simple message that God wants Christians to give! God wants people to tear down the altars to money, and exalt Him, which requires we turn loose of the money. If you aren’t giving sacrificially, there’s a disconnect which says you don’t believe or truth God is supplying what have and will supply what you need.

Does God gives more to those who sacrifice? Yes, Jesus said so. And Jesus wasn’t a health and prosperity shill.

Jesus says in Matthew….
“And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or farms for My name’s sake, will receive many times as much, and will inherit eternal life. 30 “But many who are first will be last; and the last, first.” Mt 19

Luke puts it this way…
29And He said to them, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, 30who will not receive many times as much at this time and in the age to come, eternal life.” Lk 18

Paul says this….
10 Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness; 11 you will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God. 12 For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God.” 2 Cor. 9

Now these show and establish the premise that God does bless the wallet as well as many other ways. Jesus said, “It’s more blessed to give then to receive.” Acts 20:35. The blessings are primarily spiritual, I would say, and though it’s not our motivation, God also blesses the work of our hands and makes us prosperous in this life.

When we say, “Everything I have is from God”, it’s an acknowledgement that my prosperity is from God who blessed me materialistically. Don’t twist that Truth. Thanks and bless you. Dan
