Since God is sovereign and only good comes from Him, some try to attribute weakness to God or they try to lay blame for sin at God’s feet. But God doesn’t sin and he doesn’t encourage people to sin.
Since this is the case, people wrestle to understand why there is sin? They wonder if God is the author of evil? The answer is no. Someone has pointed out that as dark is the absence of light, so evil is the absence of good.
Solomon said, “Behold, I have found only this, that God made men upright, but they have sought out many devices.” Eccl 7:29.
God makes men good. Man does the evil all on his own.
Evil is disobedience. It is the absence of God and His will in a person’s life. As the wise man said, God made men good and they went astray. This is what the Bible says time and again that man is rebellious and guilty, Rom. 3:9,23. When God gave free will, it meant God allowed that evil would be done. But free will is also necessary for men to love and put faith in God. Without free will there would be no evil. But there would also be no faith and true love.
God did not create evil. Evil is what happens when free will agents do the opposite of God’s will.
