We have a young man coming to worship. He is fresh out of prison and on parole. He’s still wearing the ankle bracelet which if he’s good will come off in December. He did a bad thing when he was eighteen but he’s an example of why men don’t need to rot away in prison. He’s polite, can quote more scripture than you, and he’s not making excuses. I’ve known a lot of people get out of jail or prison and their attitudes are still rebel against the law and establishment. This young man speaks like someone who is beyond keeping law because God’s word is guiding him. It reminds me of what Paul said “realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane,” 1 Tim 1:9. A man who is living by the law of the Spirit only wants to do the things there is no law against, Gal 5:22f. When you are a Believer, you are living by a higher law. Pray that in the next week he will be baptized. I have known this young man for several years so that when he got out, he immediately called. I can say that I love him.
