SO MANY PEOPLE ARE UNFEELING, SELF-CENTERED, AND MANIPULATIVE, Dan Mayfield

Paul talked about such people.

“2For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good, 4traitorous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,” 2 Tim. 3:2-4.

How did they get this way? It starts early in life. In verse 3 Paul says they are “unloving” and the Greek is, “missing natural affection”. The “natural” affection that’s in a person is nurtured by a mother’s touch. There is the need or hunger in an infant to be held and make emotional connection with family. But this affection can be destroyed in a child by the trauma of abandonment and by a cold and sterile environment.

So many children today are not raised with the two people it came from, the mother and father. Society has broken down so that a vast number of children have exactly half the attention they should. If for no other reason, there just isn’t time for a single parent to do what a two-parent home can offer. Single moms are working, and trying to do all of the things to maintain a home and so the time just isn’t there. Even for a loving mother or father, there are more obstacles to giving the child the same attention. It is no wonder that children would be insecure and anxious. Now in the cases where mother or father is harsh and cold, the child is going to experience extra stress and often will become cold and detached – it’s a self-preservation response. If everyone around me is only about themselves and if all of their interraction with me is mean, well I’m shutting down emotionally. It’s hurts too much to care.

A lot of youths are so cold and heartless that they are damaged maybe for life. They become or are made into selfish, heartless, and controlling adults. I am saying this to say there’s hope for them.

Jesus fixes the broken and down trodden. He can soften the heart of stone. “Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezek. 36:26.

Don’t give up. If you feel lost and lonely, Jesus will fix you. If you are afraid and uncertain about the future, Jesus will fix you. If you want to love and be loved, your Father in heaven loves you and will stir love in your heart.
