I believe in God. I believe in heaven and angels. I believe there are demons and that the devil is lurking to devour. I believe there is a heaven and an eternal hellfire. But I do not believe the miracles are occuring.

Miracles occured in the Bible periodically. 1 Corinthians 13:8 says the miraculous would cease with “tongues” and “prophecies” being representative of all of the gifts outlined in the previous chapter. There are no prophets now. Scripture is completed. So knowing that we do not seeing the raising of the dead and the miraculous, immediate kind of healing we see in the Bible, what about the devil?

that. In fact, not to open a can of worms, but I believe that is what was being taught by John at the beginning of Rev. 20, but probably someone will start an argument about it now…

The devil is also still working his evil, but his ability to work is limited too. In the New Testament he possessed people and then Jesus would cast out the demons. As Jesus demonstrated his authority over disease and nature, He showed His authority over the devil. 

Am I wrong to conclude that since God has stopped the miraculous and now works behind what is seen that also the devil is not able to possess – no demon possession? 

“16 It happened that as we were going to the place of prayer, a slave-girl having a spirit of divination met us, who was bringing her masters much profit by fortune-telling. 17 Following after Paul and us, she kept crying out, saying, “These men are bond-servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you [g]the way of salvation.” 18 She continued doing this for many days. But Paul was greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” And it came out at that very moment.” Acts 16:16-18 [compare also with the Acts 19:13ff incident with the sons of sceva].

Where is the demon possession if it continues? And who is casting demons out if it continues? Why are not the demons professing the name of Jesus and obeying His command they way they did Paul and Jesus? 

I believe demons are very real. But I see no evidence that they possess people as in the Bible. As the prophecies and tongues and supernatural healings ceased, so the possession ceased. WHAT DO YOU SAY?  Comment, Like, and Share.
