The Nazis took apart, piece by piece, the altar of Pergamum and had it transported to Berlin and reassembled in the museum named for it. There was a church in Pergamum which Jesus addressed in Revelation 2. Jesus said to the Christians,

“I know where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is; and you hold firmly to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days of Antipas, My witness, My faithful one, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.”

We may feel we are living in hard times to be a Christian, but we still have the age old problems they did in the first century. We must still strive to overcome idols, to overcome sexual immorality, and the false teachings of men. Now, as much as in the first century, we need to overcome and remain faithful to Jesus Christ.
