“To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Thess 2:14

The “our gospel” being referred to here is the gospel Paul preached about Jesus Christ. The gospel is literally “good news” which is that “that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures” 1 Cor. 15:3,4.

So God is calling you through His beloved Son because Jesus died for you, was buried for you, and for you was raised on the third day.

The gospel of Jesus does not save unless the person receives it, believes it, and obeys it. It’s true the good news has to be believed as John says, “God gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes might have eternal life“, Jn. 3:16. When God calls you to be saved through Jesus, God intends for you to obey the gospel. Why?

Let’s review what the Gospel is: that Jesus died for you, that Jesus was buried for you, and Jesus was raised for you. Jesus did not do all of this “for you” so that you would continue in sin. The gospel is calling you to depart from the life of darkness and to live in the light of truth, goodness and love.

The gospel that calls is “truth” and truth must be obeyed. Those who believe the gospel but do not obey it continue in their lost condition. Paul said to the Thessalonians says Jesus will return, “in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus“, 2Thess. 1:8. The gospel is call you to be saved which is a call to follow in the footsteps and the manner and purpose of Jesus Christ.
