DEALING WITH THE NEGATIVE IDENTITIES, DM

Mental health: Because of traumatic events in your past, the brain formed a mental image of it with the associated fears. There are big ones from our childhood that have remained fixed in the brain. These negative upset moments continue to be a part of our identity. Until that upset moment is visualized, the upset moment remains a part of our identity that affects us into the future. Just close your eyes and think about the most upset moment you have and keep focusing on that image/moment and let it grow larger in your mind’s eye and then let it shrink until it disappears. The negative identity will disappear.

This same exercise should be done any time you start feeling anxious or depressed and you feel you can’t explain why. If you get home from work at the end of the day and feel this way, lay down and trace your day backwards until you settle on the moment the upset occurred. That upset moment is stored as an image in your brain as a picture with associated “meta” data of the upset. Do the exercise of focusing on the picture and let it grow in your imagination until it begins to shrink to nothing. You will instantly feel better and you keep that upset event from becoming part of your identity.

The final thing to do is what Paul said in Philippians: “8Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is [g]lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9As for the things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.” – Phil. 4:8,9
