The church of Christ assembles every week on Sunday morning, like families did in the old days. We sing songs to worship and encourage, like in the old days before worship got turned into a gaudy display of noise to stimulate the animal in man. I love the church where we every Sunday, called in the Bible ‘the Lord’s Day’, we eat a piece of unleavened bread and drink a small cup of juice to remember back to when Jesus gave His body and blood to pay the price for our sins. I love the church of Christ where we come together to be a part of the family of God, just as close as blood brothers and sisters. I love the church of Christ where a simple lesson is delivered by the preacher from the Bible. It is a church that speaks from the Bible and does not make up stuff when the Bible is silent. I love the church of Christ where we pray directly to the Father of lights, so that with confidence we can approach His throne of grace. We prayed not through various “saints” or angels, but only and always through Jesus Christ.
Years ago when I was a young man, I went to a different church. One thing that frustrated and bewildered me was that the preacher would read from the Bible, the same as I held in my hand, and he would interpret it to say what my young but logical mind did not read. I could not stay with a church that did not respect God’s word.
The first time I ventured into a church of Christ, by happenstance or maybe by providence, my soul was refreshed to hear preaching that was both faithful and stimulating. I write this simple message to any and all who might have that deep spiritual yearning to hear the truth and nothing but the truth. We live in a world that is always changing, tossing away the tried and true. I write it to you who long for something eternal and unchanging. Come and learn to have your mind, body and soul refreshed.
My congregation meets on Waterloo Rd just west of I-35. You are cordially invited. http://www.waterlooroadchurchofchrist.com
