It is no secret that I like coffee, but what serves as wisdom on the side of Starbuck’s coffee cup #43 is making the coffee hard to swallow. Armistead Maupin, author of “Tale of the City”, offers the following bit of wisdom to the one holding this cup: “My only regret about being gay is that I repressed it for so long. I surrendered my youth to the people I feared when I could have been out there loving someone. Don’t make that mistake yourself. Life’s too &#@! [course language] short.” Now that being homosexual has become acceptable, even fashionable, Starbuck’s seems to be encouraging young people to come out and start having sexual relations. Starbucks will point to the disclaimer at the bottom of the cup which says that the author’s opinion is not “necessarily” that of the company. But the company is clearly advancing this ideology by paying for the cup. The Bible says, and I believe it, that this agenda is wrong and ought to cause people of faith to take their business elsewhere.
The Bible says, what is also a matter of common sense, that homosexuality is contrary to nature and is sinful. The Apostle Paul wrote, “For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.” – Romans 1:26,27All human beings are valuable to God and everyone sins, but the the justification of what is unnatural should not be supported. No matter how much we dislike being confrontational and judgmental, we must not fail to speak the truth. Homosexuality is a sin to be repented of, the same as any other sin: sexual or otherwise.”Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.” – 1 Cor. 6:9,10It really should bother us that Starbuck’s has taken up the cause of normalizing homosexual behavior.
