IT’S JUST TOO HARD…

That’s the reason  men give for no longer teaching the truth about divorce and remarriage. “It’s just too hard…we leave it to God to judge.” That’s not what John the Baptist said. He said the truth when it was “too hard”, even if it would cost him his life.

“It’s just too hard to teach that” has become the common thing to say. It’s shameful. Do we say “it’s just too hard to teach that marriage is for life and that many, like Herod, are living in adultery”? It’s just too hard and so we don’t. Do we say, It’s just too hard to tell people that they must carry a cross and deny themselves, and so we don’t. It’s just too hard to teach that parents, brothers, sisters, and the world must be forsaken in favor of Jesus, and so we don’t. It’s just too hard to tell the rich to give up their riches and be rich towards God, and so we don’t. It’s just too hard to tell people that without Christ, there is no salvation, and so we don’t. It’s just too hard to teach that most people are going to hell and only the few are on the narrow path, and so we don’t. It’s just too hard to say that homosexuality is a grievous sin, and so we don’t. It’s just so hard to teach our youth to be celibate and abstain from sexual relations until marriage, and so we don’t. It’s hard being a Christian, but none of us have suffered the way Jesus did to the point of death.

Let’s rethink this and decide if “It’s just too hard” is a reasonable excuse for not doing God’s will. Spoken with love.
