GOD REMAINS FAITHFUL, Dan Mayfield

Paul wrote, “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.” 2 Tim 2:13

In a godless world, faithfulness is a rare thing. It’s unique when we hear of an enduring marriage. It’s uncommon to hear of a friendship that last a lifetime. It’s inspiring when faithfulness is practiced even at great costs. A faithful friend will give you the strength to fight armies and climb tall mountains. But faithfulness is rare and hard to find in a world that does not look to God.

In a godless world, faithfulness in marriage, work, and all of society is in grave danger of being dashed upon the rocks at every new turn in the road. Divorce, lawsuits, and wide scale lack of trust from the public is on the rise. Government is not faithful. Business is not faithful. We intuitively know the value of faithfulness, but its getting harder to find.

Without faithfulness, the world loses trust. Suspicion and doubt fills every mind and heart of the unbelieving world. And this leads to ills in manifest ways. The world turned from God for a dog eat dog existence and this is the fruit. When the world has made itself to be about “me me me” and what I want, trust is replaced with tension, doubt, and fear. One act of unfaithfulness leads to these like dominoes falling. The lack of trust increases tensions that afflict the heart and our closest relationships. The lack of trust perpetuates doubts making closeness impossible. Our spouses don’t trust us. Our children don’t trust us. Police, manufacturers, and politicians are not trusted. The lack of trust increases fears that debilitate and create fight or flight. Such a broken society is what we have and it can only be rescued by one thing.

Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.” Jas 1:17

Here’s the beautiful thing. God teaches again and again the goodness of faithfulness. When it seems that all is lost and there’s no way back, there’s always a way back because God doesn’t change. Like the lighthouse in the storm, the faithfulness of God beckons and shows the way. To repair the hopeless despair that this godless society has put on us, all we need to do is look to and return to God for the healing. If we repent, He will refresh our souls, Acts 3:19. Almighty God cannot be unfaithful. He’s unchanging and without the variation of shifting shadows and He will always do what He says. That’s the beauty of Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith. He is perfect and He remains the same yesterday, today, and forever, Heb 12:1-3; 13:8. This is a great comfort in a world that has given us only tension, doubt, and fear. It is a beautiful thing to see a light and to know that it is the way out of the brokenness we feel deep in our souls. God’s faithfulness is the light we seek. Return to Him.

And if you home is breaking down, it might be rescued if you come to God. He’s the one that stills the storm. He’s the quiet rest in the chaos and turmoil. He is the healing physician. When all seems hopeless, God shows you it’s not. With Him it is never hopeless. He restores hope to you and to your life.

It takes faith. If your life is in turmoil, perhaps you have been faithless to God. A compromise here or there and soon you hardly look like a Christian. And since we are being honest, in many ways we have come to look just like the world. Many have believed in Jesus only to turn back to the world. Others have only partially turned back to the world, but God says it is impossible to be friends with the world and with Him, Jas 4. You have tried to serve two masters, but Jesus said you will love one and hate the other, Mt 6. The devil has fooled many a Christian into offering only half to God. It is unfaithfulness that offered less than all of the heart, mind, body, and soul to Him. And yet we tried it, didn’t we? And we believed it possible to do so and still remain faithful, didn’t we? We have been blinded by the lies of the world so that now it seems the fruit of that unfaithfulness has grown the seeds of doubt, tension, and fear that destroys everything it touches. This is why many lives are in turmoil.

But there is good news. God is the lighthouse of faithfulness. When it seems nearly every vestige of faithfulness is gone and impossible to see, Look! There’s the lighthouse! God is still present! The world can come back to Him with a broken and contrite heart. We can thrown ourselves at the feet of His mercy and He will heal us. All you need to do is decide to be faithful to the One who has always been faithful to you. Love Him who has always loved you. This faithfulness of God is a healing balm that soothes the sores afflicting your heart and mind and soul. Yes, there is hope because God is always faithful. This is good news. Let the world see a glimpse of something beautiful in your life. The world has bought into the lie and is starving for something lasting and precious. Be like God and be faithful. Be the light of faithfulness that points the way in a godless world.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;” Hebrews 10:23.
