9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word. 10 With all my heart I have sought You; Do not let me wander from Your commandments. 11 Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You. 12 Blessed are You, O LORD; Teach me Your statutes. 13 With my lips I have told of All the ordinances of Your mouth. 14 I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches. 15 I will meditate on Your precepts And regard Your ways. 16 I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget Your word. – Psalm 119
Most young people don’t know a thing about purity. In mind, body, and soul, impurity pervades. Without God’s Word, it’s anything goes without rules. Without God’s Word, the youth walk in darkness and don’t have the sense to see the danger ahead. They don’t know until it’s too late the dangerous path they have taken.
But there’s hope for the young person who reads the Bible. When he seeks God, his feet are set on the secure path of blessing. The young person hides the Word in his heart which is a safeguard against sin. A young person prays and seeks to know God’s will. He or she is always seeking to learn the proper way to live.
And so the young person learns to keep the mind pure. He keeps his tongue pure. He remains sexually pure by waiting until marriage. He maintains purity in his relationships. He avoids relationships that would take him on a wrong path away from walking with God.
With the Word hidden in his heart, it bubbles up in his mouth. He confesses that God is true. What’s in the heart cannot be hidden. And with the Word inside, the young man to rejoices as much as if he had worldly riches. He is rich and knows it.
So declare to God your intentions. Say with the Psalmist that you will meditate on and give regard to the Bible. Say with the Psalmist that you delight in His precepts, ways, and statutes. Do not forget the Word.
This is the way to remain pure.
