THE FUNCTIONAL CHURCH, by Dan Mayfield

If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.” Romans 12:18

I have heard criticisms of the church that it’s made of imperfect people and that there’s bickering and fighting.
But in the big scheme of things, the church is actually the place where people get along. In big families, they hardly see each other and the stories are a plenty of how dysfunctional families are and what a circus it is to get them together even once a year. We know it’s true.
However, the church family that’s brought together by Jesus’ blood is able to come together weekly and even several times a week so that we love, share, work through problems, and when we fight we make up. Why? Because Jesus loves us and He says for his people to repent and forgive and get along.
In the church, we see the lion and the lamb sitting side by side. In a dysfunctional world, the church is functional.
