AT the lecture last Saturday, I was talking about Romans 14 and the issue of meat which in part related to
Jewish Christians still feeling uneasy about eating some meats they felt unclean; even though Jesus showed all foods to be clean, Mk 7:19.
I asked the audience for a show of hands of those who did not like bacon. Out of the 140 or so adults present, only 1 raised her hand. That is a remarkable number. How many other foods would enjoy such favorability?! Not liking bacon is like not liking sunshine or pretty flowers. Bacon, and steaks and chicken are definitely from God.
2“The fear of you and the terror of you will be on every beast of the earth and on every bird of the sky; with everything that creeps on the
ground, and all the fish of the sea, into your hand they are given. 3“Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant.” – Genesis 9

I have remarked before how God’s design is evident in even the smallest things, even things not visible to the eye, as with the microscopic structure of chalk. When God made man in His image, God made man to eat, and God made food, but God also made food enjoyable. The tongue is capbable of sensing five taste that are sweet, sour, salt, and bitter, umami (glutamates, meat flavor, msg). Interesting that Sun Tzu knew of these five in the 6th century B.C. But I digress.
My point is that God didn’t just give us food for nourishing the body. God made it pleasurable. This was necessary. I have heard of people who lost the sense of taste and they have to make themselves eat because food isn’t pleasurable. This is probably why God made sex pleasurable so that husbands and wives would find enjoyment in the activity that makes the “fruitful and multiplying”.
Pleasurable sex is from God, but it is only pure when with one’s spouse. Food is pleasurable, but the good thing can become a curse if not done with self-control. There is therefore nothing wrong with enjoying things.
I recommend bacon for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, if eaten in moderation. It is nourishing and tasty. I recommend husbands and wives enjoy each other as well as have as many children as they can afford.
