I know this issue is becoming a major question for young people. “What is wrong with a guy wearing a dress? Didn’t Jesus wear a dress?”

To answer this we have to remember that God has always made a distinction between male and female. Man and woman are the perfect counterpart to the other. God made them distinct, male and female, Gen. 5:1; 1:27.

Clothing styles change, and it’s true that there are men’s styles both today and in Jesus’ day that included a type of long gown or “dress”. But here’s the thing. There was and is a distinction between man’s clothing and woman’s clothing. Women wear jeans which was a man’s style, but even in that, the woman’s denim is distinctly feminine. The clothing store doesn’t have just one unisex style to satisfy all because it wouldn’t sell. It wouldn’t distinguish the natural, biological, and God-designed distinction between the sexes.

But does the Bible say for men to not wear women’s clothing? Yes, it does. Deuteronomy 22:5 says, “A woman shall not wear man’s clothing, nor shall a man put on a woman’s clothing; for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD your God.” Though clothing styles change, there is always a distinction between what a man wears and what a woman wears. This distinction is important to God.

We all come from different backgrounds and we have had to leave sin behind in order to be pleasing to God. This even includes sinful sexual practices. Why? For a man to dress as a woman is the attempt to make oneself attractive to a male. Without the confusion of outward dress, this is a homosexual issue. And homosexuality is an abomination to God, just as Moses said concerning women and men wearing the clothing of the opposite sex. For a man to lie with a man, or for a woman to lie with a woman as with a man, is an abomination to God. It is a detestable thing to God.

Moses writes, “You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.”, Lev. 18:22. Homosexuality is a sin against the natural order designed by God. Man and woman are to marry and have a family. The homosexual or lesbian lifestyle are the perversion of God’s design. It is not healthy and it will be judged severely by God.

To you who have children, it is important to help your children to have healthy thoughts and healthy boundaries that conform to God’s design for them.
