Does God hold us responsible for a right understanding of Scripture? 
What is not informing the people, priests, princes of Israel? “1 Listen to the word of the LORD, O sons of Israel, For the LORD has a case against the inhabitants of the land, Because there is no faithfulness or kindness Or knowledge of God in the land.” Hosea 4:1. When there is no knowledge of God, what else is lacking? 
who informs the schools of business on ethics?
what guides the national education standards on morality?
without God, what becomes god? what becomes the big sin and what becomes the mission and purpose? what is ‘normal’? what is ‘family’? 
What is it that drives a person’s rebellion against God? “4 Yet let no one find fault, and let none offer reproof; For your people are like those who contend with the priest.” Hosea 4:4. Here we see they are completely closed to hearing the truth? 
Rebellion is at the heart of this people, Hos 7:14; 8:1. Stubbornness and rebellion is hard to crack through. Is there any way to get through to stubborn and rebellious people?
“I gave you a king in My anger And took him away in My wrath.” Hos 13:11. What was it about the king that so angered God? What did God say to King Saul of Israel? 1 Sam 15:22,23. 
When people are driven by their own desires, they won’t be bothered with the truth. And they will “kill the messenger” if need be. 
God is not mocked. Judgment will come on the last day but it will also come in their own day. The temporal judgment of God upon the nation when it is destroyed. “5 So you will stumble by day, And the prophet also will stumble with you by night; And I will destroy your mother.” Hosea 4:5. 
They stumble in the broad daylight. Eyes wide open, they will step in the pit and their feet will trip. Stumbling is the consequence of sin. And in their ignorance, it can’t be avoided. 
They will stumble in their work. They will stumble in their raising of children. They will stumble in decision making. They will stumble. 
Blessings from Jehovah are granted to those who know Him. The devil knows this very well. And we should expect that the devil will be working in a nation to keep the knowledge of God away from the people. “6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.” Hosea 4:6.
The people have forgotten God and His law, see Hosea 8:14.
What happened to the priests? “It will be like people, like priests” Hosea 4:9. 
How do we counter the negative, anti-God message of the culture. Our families are at risk if knowledge disappears. Our children will be lost before they are found. 
Not everyone is closed. Do you think or believe there are still seeking souls? Hos 6:1-3. 
Pursuit of God’s truth is key. 
We must stay in the word. Is God interested in seeing His people reading man’s writings? “For I delight in loyalty rather than sacrifice, And in the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.” Hosea 6:6. Max Lucado will lead the church astray. The “Emergent Church Movement” is first and foremost a challenge to the Scriptures, it is humanistic, focused for earthly utopia, on filling human needs rather than spirit, peace with man is emphasized more than peace with God, etc. “The Purpose Driven Life” takes the place of God’s purpose. This is a sneaky way to get people out of the Bible. We must be in God’s Word.
