FOOLISH PROMISES

“24 Now the Israelites were in distress that day, because Saul had bound the people under an oath, saying, ‘Cursed be anyone who eats food before evening comes, before I have avenged myself on my enemies!’ So none of the troops tasted food.” 1 Samuel 14

It is interesting that good men will not naturally follow a foolish leader. The son could speak his mind later when he unintentionally disobeyed Saul’s orders. After Jonathan ate honey and the men told him what the father had ordered, the boy said his father troubled Israel.

And when the father decided to double down on his foolish order by intending to pass down the death sentence, the men opposed the king.

There is always the need to consult God. And when we have made an error, not allow pride keep us from changing course to do the right thing.
