I see posts on Facebook that state Jesus is not God. They say that Jesus never claimed to be God. It is true that He never said the exact words, “I am God”, but He said things that lead to the conclusion He is God.
Jesus said before Abraham was, “I Am”. This points to the timeless nature of Jesus. Calling Himself the “I Am”, is saying He is the self-existent one (John 8:58). And the immediate reaction from the hearers understood His meaning and called it blasphemy (John 8:59).
John the Baptist wrote that Jesus was “in the beginning” and that everything was made by Him. Jesus was not created because He is the creator of everything (Col. 1:16; John 1:3). That points to the eternal nature and power of Jesus.
Jesus received worship which He would only do if He was divinity. Neither men nor angels can receive worship. But Jesus did without any rebuke, (Mt. 14:33; 28:9). Neither Peter nor Angels would allow the same from men. But Jesus did because in Him, “all the fulness of deity dwelled in bodily form (Col. 1).
Jesus was called “God our Savior” (Titus 2:13; 2 Pt. 1:1). And God the Father calls His Son by many names: “And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace”, (Isaiah 9:6,7).
It is a sin to deny the humanity of Christ Jesus. It is also a sin to deny Jesus’ divinity. If a person denies the true nature of Jesus Christ, that person is an Anti-Christ.
