MAKE A NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION THAT MEANS SOMETHING

Resolved to make something of the new year? We can, if we so choose, make this a new start. Like Paul, “forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead“, we can press on in this year to lift up the standard of Jesus Christ.

My little grandson, at 2 years old, resolved to give people drinks of water and to not throw big rocks at their heads. Those are some pretty big resolutions for a little boy. Imagine what we could do if we tried.

Words are cheap. Meaning our words is not so easy. Make a Crazy resolution. Set an Impossible resolution. We need to seize the day. Colossians 4:5 says make the most of your opportunities. Paul says to the Ephesians, “making the most of your time, because the days are evil” Eph 5:16. There are 365 days in the following year. By default, they will be given over to darkness and they will be used up to advance evil. But if we so resolve, we can seize those moments and days to be used to the glory of God. We can make the most of the days that might have been wasted away.

Make the most of this life God has given to us. Make a resolution and stick to it. Make it realistic and doable. That’s why from this day forward I resolve to wake up each day…. Just kidding.
