In Mark 5 we are told that Jesus went and visited the land of the Gadarenes and there He found a man who was overtaken with a legion of evil spirits. He was doing great harm to himself. Chains could not contain him. But Jesus cast out the legion into a herd of 2,000 pigs which all at once ran to the cliff and jumped into the sea to their death. There were 2,000 pigs in the herd. If there is 20 pounds of bacon per pig, that makes 40,000 pounds of bacon, not to mention all of the pork loins, roasts, and more. The people of the city were afraid and told Jesus to leave. They were more upset about losing the pigs than to be happy for the man who was sitting, clothed, and in his right mind. It’s a real dilemma. Do we love the bacon more than I hate someone suffering? Do we love money more than our souls? Do we love the friends of the world more than the church? Do we love the Bible more than we love the doctrines of men? When we are confronted with the truth from Jesus, then is found out what we love most.
