“1 Transgression speaks to the ungodly within his heart; There is no fear of God before his eyes. 2 For it flatters him in his own eyes Concerning the discovery of his iniquity and the hatred of it. 3 The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; He has ceased to be wise and to do good. 4 He plans wickedness upon his bed; He sets himself on a path that is not good; He does not despise evil.” Psalm 36
What is now is what has always been, and what has always been if what is now. I may not know the heart of a man and God is the judge, but know for sure there are wicked people in the world.
There are wicked fathers and mothers. There are wicked business people and wicked judges and wicked politicians. There are wicked church leaders and there are wicked neighbors.
David reminds us that the wicked are wicked because of what they do. They plot evil. They seek advantage over others. They lie like their father, the devil. And they chest and steal. When bad happens, when the excuses and justifications are played out, we can expect that much of it is simply the work of evil people.
There is good and there is bad. David says these people do not hate evil. The moral compass in these people is broken. There is no good or bad in the wicked. Whatever gets them what they want is acceptable to do. It is why they are the enemy of anything good because they kill, steal, and destroy. Such people are not your friend. Save your pearls and shake the dust from your feet. Stay on another path from them and do not eat at their table. If you do not here this admonition, soon you will be compromised and may be brought down to destruction.
They smile but they devise their evil. They pretend to be good and just, but their works bear then out. As there were wicked people in David’s day, so they are here today.
Save yourself and rescue yourself from their plans. Keep your distance from the evil and stay near to Jesus Christ, the Lord.
